Last weekend we thought it would be nice to get out of the city and expose the children to the great outdoors. Since we live in Illinois where there isn't much besides farmland, we had to settle for Starved Rock State Park, which is beautiful but is nothing compared to the Alps. It is supposedly amazing during the spring and winter when there is some precipitation, but the summertime is dry, crowded and the stream is dried up and smelly. Listening to Atticus exclaim, "What's that smell?" and cover his nose kind of dampened the experience.
Taking in all that Peru, IL has to offer, which is a car park, farmland and highway.
Start of our arduous 2 mile hike.
Atticus did pretty well, walking, running, and jumping throughout the entire hike.
Trying to get a good shot in the French Canyon.
The piece de resistance: The French Canyon.
Yes, does look a bit dusty. Good idea though to expose them to the delights of the countryside. Atticus and Lowell look like they enjoyed their hike.

Thought I had published a comment, but clearly my computer skills were not up to the task.
ReplyDeleteAtticus told me when we skyped that the waterfalls had no water, which is a pretty lame waterfall. Still, it go you all away from the city.
